Maintain a peaceful environment for your poultry with SODEX anti-pecking repellent

Pecking is a natural phenomenon in poultry, especially chickens.

It is not only a way to help the animals get rid of parasites or feathers during molting, but it also helps establish a healthy hierarchy within the group. Therefore, there is no need to fear it or prevent it if it remains occasional.

However, this type of behavior can sometimes become recurrent and directed at a specific hen. A peck that is a little too forceful injures the hen, and the smell and color of the blood excite her fellow hens, who attack her more and more. In laying hens, pecking sometimes targets the oviduct during the prolapse following laying. The consequences can be serious and even lead to the death of the targeted animal. Pecking also, of course, impacts the well-being of the hens and therefore the laying.

Spring is particularly conducive to this type of problem, as there is more light and poultry become more nervous. Boredom, poor living conditions, deficiencies, and stress (especially when introducing a new animal to the enclosure) can also trigger excessive pecking.

In the event of an attack, it is important to ensure that the animals' environment is suitable for their needs. Mineral and vitamin supplementation may also be recommended, as well as deworming in the event of parasitism.

Enrichment is also a very useful way to keep poultry occupied and distracted; for this purpose, we offer a cinnamon repellent that masks odors that might excite chickens and calms them. Its anti-stress effect is immediate and effectively helps restore calm in the enclosures.
