Pathogenic H5N2 Strain of Bird Flu

Affecting millions of birds and now cattle in several states, Spreading in Farms and Dairies

Flame Engineering provides farmers with sanitizing solutions to prevent the spread of disease.

La Crosse, Kansas, April 19, 2024 - Currently, a highly pathogenic strain of bird flu – H5N2 – is having a devastating impact on flocks and dairies in many states in the US, affecting over 25 million birds (source APHIS), and dairy cattle with officials reporting the disease at growing numbers of farms.

On March 25, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced that highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), specifically avian influenza virus type A (H5N1), had been identified in U.S. dairy cattle for the first time. Migrating waterfowl – most notably wild ducks – are the natural carriers of the bird flu viruses. It is suspected that infection can spread from wild fowl to domestic poultry.

To combat the spread of disease, Flame Engineering recommends that farmers take measures to sanitize their poultry houses & dairy confinement areas. When considering an effective Biosecurity Program, it is essential that the treatment is effective since the bird flu can survive for considerable lengths of time outside the host. The birds can be infected through a number of methods, including contact with other birds, contact with vehicles and equipment and contact with farm personnel.

The PL8750 Red Dragon Sanitizer has been proven to eliminate pathogens, bacteria, and viruses including the Avian Influenza. The Red Dragon Sanitizer uses clean burning propane as fuel to generate 1400° under the unit housing to kill all potential threats. The PL8750 Red Dragon Sanitizer is a product that can help with biosecurity.
