Crawler crane SCC45000A sets new world’s tonnage record

On October 28th, a unit of SCC45000A was delivered to a customer. In the history of world’s records of crane’s maximum lifting weight, following 3600 t set in 2011 and 4000 t set in 2020 both by SANY, SANY again pushes the limits to a new high: 4500 t.

This is so far the largest lifting capacity of mobile cranes ever recorded in human history. With a maximum lifting moment of over 98,000 t*m and a maximum lifting weight of 4,500 t, the crane, theoretically, is able to hoist up more than 3,000 sedan cars, outperforming all similar products.

According to Qin Xuqi, director of the SANY Crawler Crane Institute, the crane is equipped with four tracks, eight engines, a two-boom stretching length of 216 m, plus a superlift mast, a counterweight and a hook.

Beyond size and force, it made its name also by having a transformer-like capability of integrating and disintegrating different parts. Based on modular design and finite element simulation technology, 95% of parts on SCC45000A are interchangeable with those on SANY’s other large-tonnage cranes, which means only with a few parts replaced, this giant iron beast can be disassembled into independent 2,000 t crawler cranes, undertaking more complex tasks in a joint-operation mode.

Despite the colossal-sized body, SCC45000A’s controllability and mobility is not compromised compared to smaller products. Qin continued to introduce more features about the machine: “with an independently actuated super-lift counterweight system, a digital slewing drive and an integrated control system, the machine features superior smoothness and “millimeter-scale” precision in operation.
