Massey Ferguson beefs up compact tractor offering

New 1800 and 2800 E and M series tractors bring style, comfort and productivity to smaller farms and lifestyle blocks

Massey Ferguson has announced the arrival of several new compact tractors in the Australian market with horsepower ranging from 34.9hp to 60hp to complement the brand’s existing MFGC1700 and MF2600 models.

The MF1800 and MF2800 E & M Series offer a total of eight new models with ROPS and cab options and plenty of performance features, Massey Ferguson said.

"With the addition of the new MF1800 and MF2800 E & M Series to our existing MFGC1700 and MF2600 models, we now have a comprehensive compact range, purpose-built for smaller farms, lifestyle blocks, or businesses such as horticulture,” said Massey Ferguson’s Product Manager for Low Horsepower Tractors in ANZ, Elliot Cook.

“We are proud to offer a product to suit all needs, and our dealers are thrilled. Both have the weight to put power to the ground and give excellent stability and lifting performance.”

E Series

The E Series compact tractors offer four models featuring Iseki diesel engines with power output ranging from 34.9 to 57.3hp. They also sport new styling seen across the Massey Ferguson tractor line.

The E Series has a cast steel rear end and cast front axle, 4-wheel drive, and high-capacity hydraulics for heavy-duty work such as landscaping and farming on larger properties, livestock farms, small farms and municipalities, as they can be equipped with a broad range of implements and attachments.

"Not only are the E Series tractors powerful and user-friendly, but they also come at an accessible price point that is sure to appeal to customers looking for cost-effective solutions," Cook said.

"Plus, these robust and dependable workhorses offer a range of capabilities that are typically associated with larger-horsepower utility tractors, making them an excellent choice for heavy-duty applications."

The 1835E and 1840E models feature turbocharged 1.83-litre, 3-cylinder engines that provide 34.5 and 39.4hp, respectively. The larger-chassis 2850E and 2860E models are each equipped with a 2.43-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, delivering 48.8 and 57.3hp. Liquid-cooled for increased durability, the Iseki engines meet final Tier IV emissions standards, Massey Ferguson said.

“These engines deliver outstanding fuel efficiency, tremendous power, and torque, as well as reliability. Additionally, the ease of servicing and maintaining these tractors ensures that they remain efficient and dependable throughout their lifetime,” Cook added.

The dual-pump high-flow hydraulic system in the E series provides more responsive power at low engine speeds, Massey Ferguson said.

All E Series models feature an open and wide platform with plenty of room and comfort for the operator. All controls are logically arranged and easy to understand.

While featuring a fresh new design, the new models still feature a solid metal hood and fenders for durability, compared to plastic ones on other compact tractors.

The E Series compacts come with 3-range hydrostatic transmission. The 1800E models offer a Category I rear 3-point hitch, while the 2800E models are equipped with a Category I/II 3-point hitch with up to 1100kg lift capacity, providing compatibility with a range of implements, including the Massey Ferguson FL Series front loaders and CB backhoes, depending on the model.

Third-function loader control enables the use of a wide array of front attachments, such as a 4-in-1 bucket. A 540-rpm rear PTO is standard.

M Series

The 1800 and 2800M Series also consist of four models altogether ranging from 35 to 60hp. The M Series is a premium offering with new engines and comfort enhancements, Massey Ferguson said.

The 1800M Series features 1.83-litre, 3-cylinder Iseki diesel engines and are available in two models with 36.2 or 39.4hp. The 2800M Series offers two 2.43-litre, 4-cylinder Iseki-powered models, from 48.8 to 60.3hp.

These engines are liquid-cooled and turbocharged and also meet Tier IV emissions standards.

Like the E Series, the M Series tractors also benefit from a fresh design approach, but still maintaining a metal hood and fenders.

The M Series premium compacts are standard-equipped with a 3-range hydrostatic transmission that is simple and intuitive to operate. It allows the operator to reach the speed needed for the job within each range without shifting gears. Dual foot-pedal controls make for quick and easy forward/reverse direction changes while cruise control allows operators to set and maintain their preferred working or transport speed.

The M Series compact tractors are available in both cab and open-station configurations. Along with tilt-steering and a flat, unobstructed platform, the open-station ROPS models now come with a new premium seat that provides greater support and comfort, Massey Ferguson said. A new thumb-controlled throttle - also available on cab models - lets operators quickly dial in the right engine rpm.

The standard cab models feature dual lockable, entry/exit doors, tilt steering and heating/air conditioning.

The new Massey Ferguson 1800 and 2800 E and M Series compact tractors are available in Australia and New Zealand from April 24, 2023.
