European Aquaculture Technology and Innovation Platform to hold its meeting during AE2022 in Rimini

The European Aquaculture Technology and Innovation Platform (EATIP) has organized for next September 29th the Innovation Forum ‘From Policies to Solutions’, a meeting that through practical demonstrations of innovative initiatives seeks “the high potential of innovation in the effective transfer and development of capabilities”.

This meeting, with contributions from the European Commission (EC), is co-organized with the European Aquaculture Society, in the framework of the Aquaculture Europe (AE2022) to be held in Rimini, Italy, from 27 to 30 September.

The Innovation Forum is aimed at aquaculture industry stakeholders, policy makers, knowledge transfer experts, and those involved in aquaculture development and collaboration. As EATIP points out, there are many key players in knowledge transfer and facilitation, such as platforms, projects, accelerators, and dissemination and education tools. Hence the importance of making them visible.

Distributed in blocks, the program will address the importance of policies as drivers of innovation adoption. This will be followed by a panel discussion that will focus on the instruments available and how they work to facilitate the identification of innovations and the mechanisms needed to maximize their uptake.

Conferences

The conferences that will take place at the Innovation Forum will be divided into four parts: The Policy environment as a driver for Innovation Uptake; The Building Blocks, a panel-based discussion focusing on the available instruments and how they operate to facilitate the identification of needed innovations and mechanisms to maximize uptake; Facilitating the uptake; and Selected Case Studies, with a selection of case studies with outputs leading to either increased TRL or with high innovation potential.

Some of them are ‘New diagnostic techniques to prevent losses in rainbow trout farms due to the Red Mark Syndrome’, by Massimo Orioles; ‘Not only insect flour: use of wood-based yeast SCP (single-cell protein) as an ingredient for trout diets’, with Ricardo Ekmay; ‘A novel welfare assessment tool for sea-caged European Seabass: the SWIM (Salmon Welfare Index Model) approach’, of Hijran Yavuzcan.

Also, ‘Triploid salmon: how salinity influences growth and welfare’, by Raneesha De Fonseka; and ‘No more tags: a novel method to identify fish by using scale patterns’, with Dinara Bekkozhayeva.

Professionals from all over the world

Meanwhile, and very close to its date, Aquaculture Europe 2022 is already prepared to welcome its attendees and update them with the latest advances and trends in the sector. Although it is a meeting focused on European aquaculture, professionals from all over the world will attend.

The AE2022 parallel sessions will cover the full scope of European aquaculture and will comprise submitted oral and ePoster presentations. AE2022 will also feature an international trade exhibition, industry forum, student sessions and activities, satellite workshops and updates on European Union (EU) research.

In this edition, the parallel sessions organized at Aquaculture Europe 2022 aim to comprehensively cover the most relevant species and scientific disciplines through oral and poster presentations. There will also be an international trade exhibition, specific sessions and activities for students, workshops and updates on aquaculture research projects being carried out within EU.

Special events organized within the framework of the Conference include the Industry Forum, the Innovation Forum, the FAO Day, the Student Spotlight, and technical visits.

Climate neutral European aquaculture

How aquaculture is facing its new challenges, and the solutions put in place to develop a sustainable, responsible and productive and climate neutral European aquaculture sector for key marine and freshwater fish, shellfish and algal species are the main themes for AE2022 event in Rimini.

Climate change, depletion of natural resources, loss of biodiversity, food security and safety, environmental pollution and waste represent important sustainability challenges for further expansion of European aquaculture and the ambition of the European Green Deal and the Farm to Fork Strategy. It will be necessary for the sector to address these externalities, but also focus on the way in which we chose, use and re-use resources, as we move towards a circular Blue Economy.
