ANALYZE DRY MATTER IN SECONDS WITH THE NEW SCIO CUP

Introduced by Consumer Physics, the SCiO Cup is a fast, portable, lab-grade forage dry matter analyzer.

Operated through a smartphone, this device is transforming feed analysis by giving users the ability to frequently analyze dry matter. SCiO Cup enables on-farm decision making, which ensures consistent dry matter intake and reduces feed leftovers. In addition, the technology can be used in the field to plan the timing of silage harvest at optimal moisture levels.

“We bring lab-level accuracy to the farm, with added simplicity,” says Terry Allen, Consumer Physics’ North America head of business development. “The process is instant and simple – fill up SCiO Cup with green chop or silage, click the button once, and get results on your phone within 10 seconds.”

Based on an earlier version that has been completely upgraded after three years of extensive field tests, SCiO Cup uses near infra-red (NIR) spectroscopy. It supports dry matter analysis of chopped corn silage (green and ensiled), legumes silage, grass silage, small grains silage, and mixed silage. In order to ensure seasonal and regional accuracy, silage calibrations are seamlessly and continuously updated in the cloud. The technology also enables users to track past dry matter results, and trends across time, per field or feed bunker/pit.

Equipped with a rechargeable battery, SCiO Cup can scan more than 1,000 samples on a single charge. Designed for in-field applications, the rugged and shock-resistant device lists for $2,700, and includes a protective carrying case.

Cargill and other leading feed and nutrition brands are already deploying SCiO Cup.

In June, the company launched SCiO for Corn. This corn moisture analysis solution, which supports moisture levels from 8% to 80%, provides instant results in the field, directly on the cob, and without shelling. SCiO for Corn is designed for corn seed producers, agronomists, and farmers to optimize seed production and harvest timing.
