U-M Extension hosts virtual soil health tours

The next virtual tour, planned for July 24, will visit Todd County farmer Erick Stelling’s operation.

The University of Minnesota Extension is hosting virtual farm tours highlighting soil health.

“Fridays on the Farm” had its first broadcast July 10 via Facebook, featuring crop and livestock farmer Ben Dwire, who farms in Lincoln County and raises beef, pork and chicken on pasture using management-intensive grazing.

On July 24, U-M Extension will visit Todd County farmer Erick Stelling, who has 10 years of cover crop experience and more than a decade of no-till experience. He is currently experimenting with strip-till.

Registration is not needed to attend. Simply log into Facebook and look for the “Fridays on the Farm” live events. You can also click on this direct link for the July 24 event, which will be held at 11 a.m.

The field days are co-hosted by Minnesota NRCS, the Minnesota Soil Health Coalition, the Minnesota Office for Soil Health, Redwood SWCD and Renville SWCD.

Future virtual farm tours, to be held every other Friday, are in the works.

Events can be attended live or view later as a recording. To view the July 10 field day, visit the UMN Extension Cover crops page.
