Serafin introduces new sb2019 row unit for no till seeding

Reduced maintenance, increased versatility and improved seed placement among the benefits of Serafin’s new single disc opener for no till operations

Serafin claims its 4th generation SB2019 row unit is its best yet, which has been developed following rounds of consultations with farmers and engineers, several years of field testing, and a trip to Brazil to incorporate the changes at the factory level.

Manufactured in Brazil by Baldan to Serafin specifications, the new Serafin Baldan (SB) 2019 unit was released in April this year and has been met with praise by customers who have been trialling the new row units in the past few months, Serafin said.“Our last release of openers that came out in 2016 was a really good unit and it was an improvement on the previous model before that, but we still felt like we had that last five per cent of improvement we could make,” said Serafin Machinery Sales Manager, Rodney Dunn.

“The SB2019 has nailed this.”

Some improvements on the new row unit include a new disc hub and bearing system which has just one single grease point per opener, hence reducing the regular service interval to 200-250 hours.

The SB2019 has also eliminated the need to pre-load the disc hub bearing. A new seed boot will improve seed placement while a redesigned mud scraper will help with working in a larger variety of sowing conditions, Serafin said.Serafin has also made the row unit narrower to achieve a row spacing of 158mm, or just over six-inches on a two-rank machine which the company said will suit sheep and cattle farmers’ requirements for pasture renovation units.

The SB2019 row unit will be available on all of Serafin’s Ultisow products including the popular Narrow Fold range as well as the new three-rank 12m Ultisow S40 units.
