Deutz unveils 4-cylinder 6 series tractors

New models provide ample weight and power comparable to its 6-cylinder counterparts but with lower running costs

Deutz-Fahr Australia has bulked up its mid-range tractor offering with the addition of the 6130 and 6140 4-cylinder rigs with power outputs of up to 136hp, road speeds of up to 50km/h and high capacity hydraulics.

The 6130 model offers 126hp and features either Powershift or TTV transmissions and road speeds of 40km/h or 50km/h. The 6140 offers 136hp with either Powershift or TTV transmission options in the 50km/h road speed specification.

According to Deutz-Fahr Australia product manager, Anthony Darveniza, the company decided to introduce the machines to fill a gap in the market as well as within its product range.

“We had farmers requesting a big sized tractor but in a four cylinder package with a powershift or TTV transmission,” he said.

“They wanted also high flow hydraulics and (with the new 6 series) we've got closed centre 120l/min flow on all tractor models.

“We wanted a big sized tractor as well to compare with our 6-cylinder units, so we've got weights in the 4-cylinder series ranging from 5700kg to 5950kg. So you have a decent sized tractor to do the demanding work that a 6-cylinder tractor could do.”

Under the bonnet is a 3.8-litre, four-cylinder, Tier-3 compliant FARMotion engine that provides a smooth and quiet operation. More importantly, it requires no AdBlue, no DPF and no oxidation catalysts to run, hence lowering operation costs.

The three-speed Powershift transmission has been refined to offer up to 17 working speeds between five to 20km/h for extra versatility. The speed matching gearbox also features a Stop and Go system that allows the operator to put their foot on the pedal to brake and release to move, facilitating manoeuvring in tight spaces and allows for a fast and efficient front loader operation.

Deutz-Fahr’s continuously variable transmission, TTV, offers three driving modes – manual, automatic and PTO with speeds between zero to 50km/h. A new feature on the TTV models is the PowerCom S joystick on the armrest which enhances ease of operation. Operators can control the speed, forward reverse, as well as linkage controls by pushing the buttons on the joystick.

There are also four programmable buttons on the joystick that operators can assign to any function they wish and customise to suit, such as cruise control speed, implement control and more.

Another comfort feature for operators is the SDD rapid steering system which halves the number of turns of the steering wheel to make manoeuvring easier for operators, especially in loader operations.

The 50km/h models come with front axle suspension featuring double acting cylinders that maintain a perfect levelling control, boosting the overall suspension and offering a smoother ride for the operator.

The rear linkage has a lift capacity of up to 7000kg. Four PTO speeds – 540, 540ECO, 1000 and 1000ECO - are available with the Powershift models while the TTV units offer three PTO speeds – 540, 540ECO and 1000.

“Another key feature on this range is the four wheel wet disc brakes,” Darveniza added.

“The braking is done individually on each wheel so when we put our foot on the brake pedal, you got true stopping power on all four wheels.”

All 6 series tractors come standard with a Trima X56 loader, but can be optioned with other loaders such as Deutz-Fahr’s Agrolift loader if required.

Darveniza said the specced up 4-cylinder range caters to livestock and dairy farmers needing a heavier duty tractor to run a round baler. Vegetable farmers will also find the vast amount of working speeds particularly useful, he added.

Pricing for the 4-cylinder 6 series starts from $112,900 plus GST for the 6130 powershift model in the 40km/h road speed specification.
