Massey Ferguson meets the strictest Stage V regulations with straightforward maintenance free technology

Massey Ferguson is continuing its straightforward, maintenance-free approach, for regular tractor lifetime, to exhaust emission control with the introduction of a novel All-in-One SCR exhaust after treatment system to meet the strictest ever Stage V regulations.

This latest, most advanced, step is the culmination of Massey Ferguson’s engine technology journey, which started in 2008 with the introduction of SCR on the MF 8600 Series – the first ever to use Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR). From the outset, the tractors have been designed to comply with each stage in the path to the ultimate and strict Stage V emission regulations.

Integrated outside the bonnet, it follows similar lines to the award-winning ‘All-In-One’ SCR system, available in the MF 5700 S Series, and remains maintenance free during tractor regular working life.Stage V engines are now powering the new Massey Ferguson MF 8700 S series and the new MF 7716 S, MF 7718 S and MF 7719 S.

While there are slight differences between the ‘All-in-One’ SCR systems employed on the MF 7700 S and MF 8700 S, they are essentially the same.

The main difference between the existing ‘All-in-One Stage IV’ and the latest Stage V system is the addition of a new Soot Catalyst, along with slight modifications to the exhaust pipe, which is actually now narrower than its predecessor on MF 7700 S and MF 8700S.

Straightforward and efficient, it does not use an active Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) or a Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT), which adds complexity and requires regular servicing. Indeed, the All-in-One SCR remains maintenance free for the whole regular life of the tractor contributing to Massey Ferguson’s industry leading low total cost of ownership.

Massey Ferguson has also retained the side and forward visibility, which is now improved on the MF 7700 S and MF 8700 S thanks to a narrower exhaust pipe. Elsewhere All-in-One SCR components are gathered neatly out of the way, with the AdBlue tank positioned on the same side as the fuel tank along with new integrated steps making access easier.

There’s not compromising engine performance either. While the MF 7700 S sees a 5hp increase in maximum power on the new models, the maximum power and Engine Power Management (EPM) extra power figures remain the same on the latest MF 8700 S models.

While the Soot Catalyst (SC) does require occasional ‘regeneration’ this is done automatically and passively. It does not require a separate diesel injection system or any extra fuel, which maintains Massey Ferguson’s best in class low fuel consumption.

The engine control unit (ECU) determines when regeneration is required and if the engine is hot and well loaded the soot will burn off naturally. If the operating parameters are not suitable for regeneration, the system automatically makes adjustments to increase the temperature to burn off the soot, but importantly without the need for a fuel injector in the system.

Operators still remain in control of regeneration and can choose to postpone the passive and automatic sequences or manually select to run it on demand.
