SYNGENTA PARTNERS WITH SONY TO OFFER SMART AGRICULTURE SOLUTION

For the 2019 season, Syngenta is launching a pilot project that will integrate the company’s satellite imaging software FarmShots with Sony’s Smart Agriculture Solution.

This solution will provide agronomists with access to sensing and processing technologies that capture imagery and data simultaneously, and then produce highly accurate and actionable in-season crop insights without having to connect to a network.

“This offering furthers our ability to provide meaningful, implementable information to agronomists,” says Dan Burdett, global head of digital agriculture, Syngenta. “During this exciting time in digital agriculture, we remain focused on delivering value to growers and their trusted advisers by providing tools that will help them be successful. We are pleased to work with Sony, a global technology leader that shares our commitment to innovation, cross-industry collaboration, and sustainability.”

Sony’s solution, which is deployed via a drone-mounted dual sensor camera, uses sensor fusion and fast-stitching technology to generate whole-field maps. Because it operates without a network, maps can be completed on demand. Syngenta has worked with Sony to adapt the Smart Agriculture Solution to communicate with Syngenta’s satellite imaging software, FarmShots, for a seamless integration.

“We are pleased to be able to offer an end-to-end solution leveraging our compelling technology to meet the needs of the agriculture industry by increasing efficiency and productivity,” says Bruce Tanaka, general manager of new segment department, professional products and solutions group, Sony Imaging Products and Solutions Inc. “We will continue to further enhance this solution by working closely with partners like Syngenta with their industry knowledge and experience, as well as end users.”
