Davey launch TankSense to help manage tank water

Managing household tank and rainwater supplies can be stressful, particularly in times of drought.

A new tool from water technology company, Davey, promises to make it easy for users to determine exactly how much water they have left and when supplies are likely to run low.

The TankSense monitoring system combines real-time water usage data with the current tank level to predict how many days of supply is left, allowing the user to plan a water delivery, or arrange to switch water supplies.

Davey, innovation mission leader, Chris Knapp said the system addressed feedback the company had received from its customers that indicated uncertainty around remaining supply was one of the biggest challenges they faced.

“Even when tanks include a visual gauge to show how much water is left, it can be hard for owners to predict their usage rates, so it’s still hard for them to know when they need to order water, and when they can afford to wait a little longer,” he said.

Mr Knapp said TankSense ‘learned’ a customers water use patterns, which it could then use to more accurately predict how long the water supply would last, this was also integrated with rain forecast data sourced from the Bureau of Meteorology.

“It gives a lot of peace of mind to tank users and also allows them more control,” he said.

“It’s very frustrating for people when they order a delivery and then have to worry if the water will run out before it arrives, or they get a delivery only for it to bucket down with rain a few days later.”

Mr Knapp said TankSense can be used on a range of steel and polyethene tanks from 1,000 to 100,000 litre capacity.

“We launched TankSense at the Irrigation Expo in Sydney in June and the response was excellent and we’ve had lots of positive feedback since we launched to market in October,” he said.

“It’s an ideal product for anyone who relies on rainwater as their primary source.

“Not only does it offer great peace of mind, it’s a potential money-saver, because the integrated weather prediction can help people make decisions about when to order water.”
