Amity wins engineering award for its Precision Shank Drill

The drill combines the best of the Concord Air Seeder with modern seeding technology.

Amity is among the winners of a prestigious agricultural engineering award for its Precision Shank Drill (PSD).

The PSD blends the best features of the original Concord air seeder with modern technology. The centerpiece of the PSD is the row unit, which utilizes a ripple coulter with closing discs that allows the operator to achieve higher seeding speeds without compromising depth control.

Until now, air hoe drills were limited to slower seeding speeds mainly because the rear row of shank openers threw soil over adjacent rows. The PSD’s unique technology displaces less soil and higher speeds.

The independent link row unit allows for precise depth control, exceptional ground following, smoother field finish and better packer wheel performance, which all leads to better seed placement and emergence.

The PSD is able to achieve a higher operating speed thanks to its disc leveler that captures the soil displaced by the seed opener in the seed furrow. This ensures the seed cover is uniform from row to row at any speed.

Approximately 50 products are chosen each year for an AE50 award from the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers. A panel of expert engineers ranks the products based on innovation, significant engineering advancement and impact on the market served.

The AE50 awards are presented to the year’s most innovative designs in engineering and technology for agricultural food and biological systems
