Help, my lawn's dried out!

Overseeding with ELIET DZC 600

The hot summer months have created bad drought conditions, leaving homeowners with parched, brown lawns all over the country. As soon as autumn is coming back with rainy weather, the stronger grass plants are going to recover quickly and have survived the dry period. But a lot of grass plants have suffered too badly and leave the lawn with brown patches. How to fix this damage?

There is only one remedy: overseeding!

Overseeding is the sowing of new grass seed in the existing turf. The new seedlings fill the gaps between the old grass plants with healthy new plants. This vigorous young grass will not only restore the diversity of grass varieties, but also increase the density of the grass and rejuvenate the lawn. Two weeks after treatment, the lawn will already be fuller and greener. The lawn will be much more resistant, and weeds and mosses will no longer be able to get a foothold.

Grasses germinate ideally at temperatures above 12 °C when there is enough rain. Logically, people renovate their lawns at the start of the season. Spring is changeable, so it is not the best time for a new lawn to grow. The ideal, natural time of year to sow grass is in the autumn (September - October). This is also the best time to carry out overseeding, because the existing grass enters a period of rest. Young grass seedlings then get ample opportunity to develop without encountering competition from the existing grass.

For years Eliet has been highlighting the importance of re-seeding and proactive lawn care. At the end of 2013, Eliet developed its new DZC600, creating a real break-through in domestic grass regeneration. This high-tech overseeding machine is revolutionary because of its unbelievable levels of precision and efficiency and yet very reasonable price. In this way grass care by overseeding is made affordable and can now be carried out cheaply on a wide scale.

The DZC 600 performs 6 consecutive operations:

1. CUTTING OPEN THE SOIL

The cutting blades at the front of the machine cut open 8 mm (0,3”)

deep grooves in the soil of the lawn in preparation for the grass seed.

2. REMOVAL OF EXCESS SOIL

The blades rotate over the top and cast the soil in an arch to the rear of the machine so that it does not fall into the newly cut grooves.

3. PRECISION SOWING

A clever and compact seed distribution system, Helix Seed DuctTM, carries the seed under the projected excess soil into small funnels leading to discharge channels precisely located above the clean grooves.

4. INJECTION

A small air pressure generator blows air through the seed funnels so the seed is blown while it is being distributed. This helps the seed to settle faster and with more precision in the grooves.

5. ROLLING

The powered rubber roller immediately follows the seed distribution process and ensures that there is good contact between the soil and the seeds by pressing the earth down.

6. COVERING THE SEED

The flow of projected excess earth falls just behind the roller on the sown area. The earth covers the seedbed and provides a protective layer for the seed, increasing the chances of germination and growth.
